THE REVELATION OF LOVE.

DAINTILY lifting His head in the world as a rose in the garden,

Love in His splendour arose for man to desire and adore.

Erst from the depths of space the murmur of heralding music

Rolled, and over the earth echoed a tumult of song.

Far fell the rays of His beauty, suffusing the skirts of the mountains,

Touching the rills till they leapt like flashes of light from the cliffs,

When those wine-red lips, like a rosebud, blossomed in laughter,

Rubies responsive appeared cascading from mountain and cave.

Whilst thou intonest this lay in the garden, around thee, O Makhfi,

Jacinth and jonquil start from the heart of the earth at thy feet.
