LETTER CCXIV.
To GHÛLÂM ALI KHÂN;* dated 26th YOOSÛFY. (1st February.)

THE people who are to attend you [on your embassy], and who are enumerated in the following list, have been dispatched to you, under charge of a guard, consisting of five hundred and seven Piâdehs, and commanded [or superintended] by Ghûlâm Mohyûddeen Khân, the Buktshy of Nugr, and Rung Râo. Upon the arrival of the party, the Piâdehs are to continue to be employed in taking care of it, until its embarkation; after which, giving them a receipt,* you must dispatch them back to the Presence.

OBSERVATIONS.

The only remark which I have to offer on this letter is, that it would appear from it, that the people, sent upon this distant embassy, must have proceeded on it with great reluctance, since it was necessary, in order to prevent their desertion, to keep them, till their embarkation, in custody of a military guard, of equal strength with themselves.
