REIGN OF ARDVÂN.

In the Târikh Ja’fari it is stated that when he reigned three years elapsed and no rain fell. This calamity led him and his people to repent, whereon the Almighty again sent rain, and the world flourished. In the Târikh Guzi­dah it is related that after he had reigned thirteen years he was killed in the war with the Ashkânians. From the same work we also learn that the Ashkânians here meant were another dynasty of the Mulûk-ut-touâif, whose genealogy ascends to Faribarz Kâvus. These kings are eight in number,* as follows:
