REIGN OF PURÂNDUKHT, DAUGHTER OF KHOSRU
PARVIZ.*

She was an intelligent woman, who spread out the carpet of justice and equity, and erected bridges. She raised one of the murderers of Shehriâr to the wizirate, and sent back to the Qaisar as a gift the wood of the cross which had been brought from Rûm in the time of Khosru, and requested him to kill any partizans of Shehriâr who might be in his country. The Qaisar, being highly pleased with the wood of the cross, became a friend. Then Purândukht punished many persons by death who had been implicated in the death of her father. After a reign of one year and four months she hastened to the next world.
