The Hindus term a quarter diśá and also dig* and of these they reckon ten. Each of them they consider to be under a tutelary spirit whom they name Dig-pála as will appear in the following table:—

Some assign a quarter to the interval between the upper and lower regions and thus reckon eleven. The regent of this is Rudra.
