KHWÁJAH KARAK.*

One of the greatest of the ascetics. He lived apart from worldly intercourse and passed his days in ruined places. Khwájah Ḳuṭbu'ddín U´shi sent him the habit of a recluse, which he took and threw into the fire. The bearer reviled him to the Khwájah who replied, “Go and demand it back, so that thou mayest know what has in reality happened.” When he made his request, Khwájah Karak said, “Go, and take out a cloak from the fireplace, but only your own.” When he went to look, he found that habit among many others, and repented of his conduct. His tomb is at Karrah,* Mánikpúr.
