They say that Adam after his fall from Paradise was thrown on the island of Ceylon, his consort on Juddah,* Azráíl in Sístán, the Serpent in Ispáhán, and the Peacock in Hindustan. Imaginative writers have embellished this fable with abundant details, but in Sanscrit works which treat of the events of myriads of past ages not a trace of this story is to be found.
