I shall speak first of Rhetoric ('Ilmu'l-Badáyi'), choosing my examples chiefly from the “Gardens of Magic,” but some- The Science of Rhetoric. times from other sources, and departing from Waṭwáṭ's arrangement where this seems to me to be faulty. I shall also endeavour to illustrate the different rhetorical figures, so far as possible, by English examples, in order that the nature of each figure may be more readily apprehended by the English reader.
