He also was one of the more esteemed among holy men. His line of spiritual descent came through his own revered father, Shaikh Muḥammad (may God render his soul fragrant). Shaikh Muḥammad wrote a commentary in Persian on Shāibī,* which covered nearly seventy quires of paper. His true successor, ^25. Shaikh Sa'dī, was subject to fits of overpowering religious ecstasy, and was pure both in body and soul. He was ever cheerful and light of heart, and lived happy and free from care. To one of his friends he wrote in a letter, when saying farewell to him:—

“Thy Sa'dī's eyes and heart are with thee on thy way,
“So deem not that thou goest alone, they bide with thee
alway.”
His death occurred in the year H. 1002 (A.D. 1593-4).
