XXXIII BAHRÁM, SON OF SHÁPÚR HE REIGNED FOURTEEN YEARS
NOTE

The Oriental title of this Sháh (Varahran IV., A.D. 388-399) renders it doubtful whether he was the son of the second or third Shápúr, and the authorities differ on the point. He is supposed generally to have reigned eleven years. He was the ruler of Kirmán at the time of his accession, and to him rightly belongs the title of Kirmánsháh which Firdausí gives to Bahrám Bahrámiyán.*

A seal of his, so describing him (“Varahran Kerman Malka”) is extant.*

Tabarí says that he built a city in Kirmán, perhaps the existent Kirmánsháhán south-east of Yazd,*

and that he was killed by an arrow shot at him by assassins.*
