Zál, seeing this, gave thanks exceedingly
To that victorious and discerning Sháh.
When Zál resumed his seat Gúdarz arose,
He urged a just request, and thus he said:—
“Victorious Sháh! we never yet have seen
A master of the throne to equal thee.
From Minúchihr as far as Kai Kubád,
And from Káús until thy noble self,
We have girt up our loins before the chiefs,
And have not had a single day's repose.
My sons and grandsons numbered seventy-eight;
Now eight remain; the rest have passed away.
