Muḥammad Kāẓim ibn Muḥammad Amīn, Munšī d. 1092/1681

Historian

Muḥammad Kāẓim ibn Muḥammad Amīn served under Mughal Emperor Awrangzīb (see author 30) as munšī (secretary). He was the son of Munšī Muḥammad Amīn, the official historiographer of Awrangzīb’s father (Šāh Jahān). Awrangzīb ordered Muḥammad Kāẓim to compile a history of his reign from the official records. The ensuing product was ʿĀlamgīr-nāmah.

ʿĀlamgīr-nāmah     The Book of Awrangzīb

Extends to 1078/1667-8.

ʿĀlamgīr-nāmah is a history of the first ten years of Awrangzīb’s reign from 1068/1657 to 1078/1667-8. The work was presented to Awrangzīb in the 32nd year of his reign at which point he ordered its discontinuation. Muḥammad Kāẓim died in 1092/1681.
