ʿAfīf, Šams al-Dīn ibn Sirāj al-Dīn/ Šams-i Sirāj ʿAfīf fl. ca. 801/1398

Historian/Biographer

The fame of Šams al-Dīn ibn Sirāj al-Dīn ʿAfīf rests on his Tārīḫ-i Fīrūz Šāhī, a history of the rule of Fīrūz Šāh (see author 70), Sultan of Delhi, who reigned from 752/1351 to 790/1388. The author’s father was in the service of Fīrūz Šāh, thus Šams-i Sirāj was able to spend much of his childhood growing up at Fīrūz Šāh’s court. Tārīḫ-i Fīrūz Šāhī seems to be the only surviving part of a much larger work by Šams-i Sirāj on the history of the Tuğluqids, not just Fīrūz Šāh.
