Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd al-Laṭīf al-Qazvīnī, Mīr

Historian

Mīr Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd al-Laṭīf al-Qazvīnī was born in 885/1441. Once a favorite of Safavid ruler Šāh Tahmāsp, he was later denounced and imprisoned by that same ruler for being considered the chief of the Sunnis of Qazvīn. Mīr Yaḥyā Qazvīnī is known for his work of history entitled Lubb al-tavārīḫ.

Lubb al-tavārīḫ is a sketch of general history extending to 948/1542, which is also the year of the work’s completion. It is divided into four parts: Muḥammad and the Imāms, Pre-Islamic Persian Kings, Post-Islamic Kings, and the Safavids. It is most likely that Mīr Yaḥyā Qazvīnī died in 962/1555, however, 960/1552–3 has also been offered as a possible date.
