Sayfī ʿArūżī Buḫārī flourished at the Tīmūrid court in Herat in the latter half of the 9th/15th century and he is mostly known for his work on Persian prosody entitled ʿArūẓ-i Sayfī (completed in 896/1491). English translations of ʿArūẓ-i Sayfī played an integral role in making Persian poetical theory accessible to European students, however, now that “older and more detailed works on the same subject are available Sayfī’s largely derivative work is only of limited interest”. 0198“Šafīq” Awrangabādī, Lačmī Narāyan Lačmī Narāyan Awrangabādī was in the service of the family of NiẓāmʿAlī Ḫān, who from 1175/1761 to 1218/1803 was the Niẓām of Awrangabād (currently located in the Maharashtra district of Central West India). Lačmī Narāyan was a prolific writer across a wide range of genres, however, best known for his anthologies of poets. He also composed poetry in both Persian and Urdu under the penname “Šafīq.” His date of death is not known for certain but believed to have occurred some time after 1214/1799.
