Sa'ib-i Tabrīzī, Muḥammad ʿAlī "Sa'ib," Mīrzā

Poet

Mīrzā Muḥammad ʿAlī (poetically surnamed Ṣāʾib) was a poet during the times of Mughal ruler Šāh Jahān. Ṣāʾib passed most of his life in Mughal lands. He returned to Iṣfahān in his final years and died in that town ca. 1088/1677–8. During his lifetime Ṣāʾib was both famous and prolific (his Dīvān consists of roughly 120,000 verses). As for his ghazals, they are “noteworthy for the sureness of touch that they evince, the subtlety of ideas and, interestingly, the popular proverbs which are worked into them”.
