Rafi' al-Dīn Ibrāhīm Šīrāzī

Historian

Rafīʿ al-Dīn Ibrāhīm Šīrāzī spent most of his life in the service of the ʿĀdil Šāh dynasty, which independently ruled over Bijapur (currently located in the district of Karnataka in SW India) until their kingdom was absorbed into the Mughal Empire ca. 1097/1686. He served both ʿAlī ʿĀdil Šāh (r. 965/1557 to 987/1579) and Ibrāhīm ʿĀdil Šāh II (r. 987/1579 to 1035/1626) in various capacities, eventually leaving his mark as one of the dynasty’s historians. In addition to composing a history of the ʿĀdil Šāh dynasty, Rafīʿ al-Dīn also completed an abridgement of Ḫwāndamīr’s (see Ḫwāndamīr) Ḥabīb al-siyar and Mīr Ḫwānd’s (see Mīr Khvānd) Rawżat al-ṣafā. Rafīʿ al-Dīn died ca. 1030/1620.
