Fīrūz Šāh Tuğluq, Fīrūz ibn Rajab

Sulṭān/Memoirist

Fīrūz Šāh was the Sulṭān of Delhi from 752/1351 to 790/1388. While he may have failed as a general in conquering land, his reign was characterized by the abolishment of many taxes, an agrarian policy that benefited peasants and small shopkeepers, and prolific building. However, this “ease and plenty of reign,” with little regard for the strength of the army and ruling community, may have been what weakened the Sultanate of Delhi in the days leading to the invasion of Tīmūr.

Fīrūz Šāh’s only known work is Futūḥāt-i Fīrūz-Šāhī.
