Bhīmsin ibn Raghūnandandās

Emperor, (1068/1658)

Memoirist

Bhīmsin ibn Raghūnandandās served a military officer of Mughal Emperor Awrangzīb (see Awrangzīb (ʿĀlamgīr I)) during that ruler’s military campaigns in the Deccan (present day South India). Bhīmsin recorded some of the events he witnessed there, along with other observations, in Tārīḫ-i dilgušā, also referred to as Dilgušā or Nusḫah-i dilgušā. Based mainly on personal observations and military transactions, Tārīḫ-i dilgušā is the author’s memoirs spanning half a century. It begins with Awrangzīb’s march to Āgra in 1068/1658 and extends to some of the major events in the battle over succession between the late emperor’s sons in 1120/1708–9. The work was completed in 1120/1708–9.
