"Anvarī," Awḥad al-Dīn Muḥammad (or ʿAlī?)

Poet

Little is known of the life of Anvarī, the penname of Awḥad al-Dīn Muḥammad (or ʿAlī?). He served as a court poet to Seljuk Sulṭān Sanjar (d. 552/1157). Much of Anvarī’s fame has been connected to his masterful ability in panegyrics, however, “is poetry has been criticized as being pervaded with a ‘superfluity of erudition’,”. Additionally, he was learned in the sciences, especially astrology.
