SHAYKH BADRU'DDÍN

His birthplace was Ghaznah.* In a dream he received the discipleship of Khwájah Ḳuṭbu'ddín U´shí, and abandoning all, undertook the toil of a journey in quest of the holy man. In Delhi his desires were fulfilled and he received the office of vicegerent. Ḳáẓí Ḥámidu'ddín, Shaykh Faríd u'ddín Ganj i Shakkar, Sayyid Mubárak Ghaznaví, Mauláná Majdu'ddín Jurjání, Shaykh Ziyáu'ddín Dihlaví, and other eminent personages received the blessing of his instructions. In his old age when he was unable to move, the sound of a hymn would excite him to ecstasy and he would dance like a youth. When asked how it was that the Shaykh could dance notwithstanding his decrepitude, he replied: “Where is the Shaykh? It is Love that dances.” His resting-place is at the foot of his own master's grave.
